1.02.11 Sunday: Sea Day 1

8:00am-9:30am  “How To Tame Your ‘Dragons”: All managers and leaders have to face “dragons” from time to time. These are challenges that breathe fire and threaten to destroy our freedom and success.  In most cases we find that if we “slay” these dragons, the fall out can be just as bad as the damage the ‘dragons’ themselves can do.  We must learn methods of “taming” the dragons rather than completely slaying them.  This session will share stories and strategies to help implement a strong business approach while not compromising your personal goals and objectives. It will also help you identify your business challenges and understand concepts that will help you tame these dragons so that you can continue to be successful

9:30am-11:00am “Assessing Organizational Health”: This session gives a strategy and format for assessing the “health” of your organization or business.  Topics discussed will be: understanding corporate culture, the power of morale, a vision statement vs. a statement of philosophy, and determining the direction of the center in correlation to the vision and philosophy in place.  Methods for doing a self-assessment of the overall organizational health will also be covered.

In order for a group of people to become a team there must be Leadership, there must be Ownership by the members of the team, there must be Accountability, and there must be Determination. Everyone must carry their L.O.A.D.! This session includes proven strategies on how to create and participate in winning teams within the workplace.

9:30am-10:45am “Time Management for Director’s”: National statistics reveal that the average center director will only stay in their position 3-5 years.  Often they are totally burnt out and may even leave the field altogether.  Time management strategies can minimize this statistic and give director’s gained control over their environment.  Topics covered are:  learning to control interruptions, developing a proactive vs. a reactive leadership strategy and overcoming the top time management challenges

11:00am-1:00pm "Enrollment Management™ as a Business Strategy”: Effective Managers and Directors must understand the business complexities of the child care center as a business.  The “Enrollment Management”™ strategy is a proven system of increasing profitability through a total process of managing the enrollment process.  Topics include:  rate structure, ratio theories, business philosophy, promotion strategies and the “Guaranteed Start”™ policy.

9:45am-11:00am ”Assessment Made Easy”: Every teacher in every age group needs an assessment system.  This class will discuss the importance and need for early assessment and early intervention.  Classroom observation strategies andstt-skyride a child assessment format will also be discussed.  Participants will be given direction and instruction in the use of an assessment format and discuss the value of parent/teacher communication.

11:15am-1:00pm “Discipline and Behavior Intervention”: Many centers lack a structure and strategy for early intervention of discipline/behavior issues.  In this session, Bradley talks about the power of a good Discipline Policy and what that policy should contain.  The use of a Behavior Intervention Policy and Behavior Intervention Meetings are also discussed.  This class can be used as a part 2 to “Discipline through Leadership” and focuses on dealing with the “negative” side of discipline.
